A world premiere in Hungary! Unbelievable but true - for the first time in the Hungarian history of the operetta and musical, the opening of a new musical by worldfamous American authors can be seen on the stage of Budapest Operetta Theatre!

The new musical Rudolf which was made in co-production with the Vereinigte Bühnen Wien will probably come up to the success series of the shows Elisabeth, Mozart! and Romeo and Juliet.

Still, with the arrangements done by an American expert, with a Dutch music supervisor, with the co operation of the dramaturges from Vienna, the world premiere of this musical by the authors Frank Wildhorn and Jack Murphy is due to mean a great step ahead in the international reception of our theatre and also the theatricals of Hungarian operetta and musical. Making this production is a special and in some ways historically determining cultural bridge between New York, Vienna, Budapest and Szeged.

The young Rudolph meets the 17 year old baronet in the moment when everything is about to collapse around him. His political and human conflict with his father, Caesar Franz Joseph, becomes obviously irreconcilable, he is surrounded by denouncers everywhere, his relation with his wife is unhappy, and on top of all that, the Hungarians expect him to solve the crises of the Monarchy. Rudolph feels to be in a trap, he is incapable to override his limits - and as a salvation, the love arrives into his life, sweeping away everything.

The secret liaison doesn't escape Taaffe's, the prime minister's attention, who is anxious to hinder Rudolph's political and private life success from this moment. We know in vain the tragic end from the history books, but it seems to the last minute so: love will win at the end.
